First I need to clarify that YOU MUST READ BOOK ONE to read this or you will find yourself lost at sea, because the events on this book are the result of the decisions made in the first installment. And the reading is necessary to really comprehend the characters' evolution and many of the events that occur in this book.

If you haven't read book one, DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW.

Distracted continues the story of Red and Gavin. She is now in California chasing her dreams of becoming a doctor and Gavin is left nehind to face his biological parents and some revelations that will shake his life.

We all read the first chapters at the end of Distractions so we knew it would jump right in where we left off. Red is far away from home and needs to focus on her career. It all becomes difficult when a fire strikes her dorm and she accepts Jake's help. And half away the country, we discover Gavin's biological mother, a sister and a place where money can buy anything.

This one was totally different from the previous book. Here there is more drama, tension (and not only sexual) and despair. I think the drama made the book exciting and it almost look like something out of movie or TV series (so much drama).

I like who Red is becoming, she is now more mature and confident. She is not the same girl we met in book one. Unfortunately, this time I didn't like Gavin. His insecurities were too much, he acts like a child and his reasoning is senseless. I couldn’t believe the way he acted but I think this change in him make us appreciate other characters. And besides, not all men are perfect so he may be like any other real men out there.

Now, I need to talk about Nixon. He is the new mysterious guy and I have only one word for him: HOT! I can't believe how good he is, with his rough edges, his sexy beard (I know, I hate facial hair but he make me love it), his intelligence, his sweet tender side and all his cooking skills (among other great things about him). I was blown away with everything about him, his body, personality and I’ll stop before giving anything away.

It’s obvious a third book is in order because there are so many unanswered questions but I loved this one.

As I said, it is different than Distractions because this book is not all about sexual tension. Ok, there are sex scenes and they burnt my kindle. But this one involves different aspects of the characters and their lives.

I can’t wait to read the next one!

Review: The Pharaoh's Cat

TITLE: The Pharaoh's Cat
AUTHOR: MAria Luisa Lang
RELEASE DATE: May 16th 2015
PUBLISHER: self-published
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review

The Pharaoh’s Cat, narrated in the present tense by the cat himself, is the story of a free-spirited, quick-witted stray in ancient Egypt who suddenly finds himself with human powers joined to his feline nature.
The cat immediately captures the attention of the seventeen-year-old Pharaoh, making him laugh for the first time since his parents' death, and is brought to live with him at the royal palace.
The cat also becomes friends with the High Priest of the god Amun-Ra and seeks his help in solving the mystery of his human powers and the supernatural manifestations that later plague him. He has an enemy in the Vizier—the Pharaoh's uncle and the second most powerful man in Egypt. The Vizier hates him for himself and even more for his relationship with the Pharaoh.
The cat participates in festivities at the royal palace, developing an insatiable appetite for good food, wine, and gossip. He later accompanies the Pharaoh on a trip through his kingdom, all the while renewing the Pharaoh’s ability to enjoy life and inspiring him to become a stronger leader. Between the cat and the Pharaoh a bond of love gradually forms which will determine Egypt's destiny.
The Pharaoh's Cat imaginatively blends Egyptology with comedy, drama, and even time travel--the cat and the High Priest will meet Elena, a resident of the twenty-first century and the daughter of a renowned Egyptologist.

So this is the story of a talking cat but not any ordinary talking cat. This special feline becomes friends with the Pharaoh as soon as he acquires human abilities. Is this friendship what would take him to many adventures and funny situations.

The story is a bit slow at first and the reading seems shallow somehow. We have a talking cat but he doesn't really do anything extraordinary. His fight with the Vizier has some funny consequences and we have some scenes that make you laugh. Overall, the journey through Egypt is ok and we get to know the characters.

Luckily, half around the book things got interesting when the time travel finally happened. The actions leading to the time jump are quite interesting and from then on the story becomes faster and more exciting.

The writing is good, the language is appropriate and the book is less than 200 pages so it’s fast to read.

Blitz & Giveaway - Cado @dtdyllin

TITLE: CADO
AUTHOR: D.T. DYLLIN
RELEASE DATE: October 26th 2015
PUBLISHER: Tik Tok Press
FORMAT: Paperback & Ebook

Is the love of a bad man as fulfilling as that of a good man—if he’s good to you?The fantasy for most women is the happily ever after, the white knight or the prince charming. Or maybe they imagine the hero swoops in to save them from their mundane existence. But what happens if you catch the attention of the villain instead? Tiffany aka Karma is about to find out…Karma isn’t just a name; it’s a way of life for an exotic dancer with a taste for vigilante justice. She should have been more careful though, because her deeds haven’t gone completely unnoticed. A man who isn’t quite human, with the predilection for destruction, has set his sights on her. His brand of love is tainted…twisted, and Karma is powerless to resist.

D.T. Dyllin is a bestselling author who writes both paranormal and contemporary romance. Anything with a love story is her kryptonite. Her obsession with affairs-of-the-heart is what first drove her to begin twisting her own tales of scorching romance.

D.T. was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Black & Gold for life, baby!) She now lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with her husband and two spoiled German Shepherds.

His muddy gaze slid over me with disdain and his lips curled up into a sneer. “You really didn’t think I was going to let you get away with that, did you?”
Internally I was trying to quickly come up with a plan. I wasn’t some preternaturally gifted being of some sort, not that those existed. Sure I took martial arts and self-defense but...in real life being about a foot shorter than this guy put me at a huge disadvantage. I usually used surprise...and weapons to even those kinds of odds. I was lacking both of those at the moment. I donned the best fake smile I could muster. “Get away with what? I told you I’m not for sale. You got what you paid for.”
The kid’s eyes narrowed and hostility rolled off of him in waves. “You led me on. You made me think—”
“I never led you on for even a second. You paid for and I gave you time in the private room with me where you received a very up close and personal dance that lasted the span of a few songs. I told you before, my sexual favors aren’t for sale. Whatever you’ve heard about me or any of the other girls at Club Elite is a lie. This isn’t that kind of place.” I crossed my arms over my chest and attempted to make it seem like he wasn’t intimidating me. How the hell did he get past the security downstairs and know where to find me?
He rushed at me, letting me know that our little tête-à-tête was over. I dropped my bag and made myself ready. I can do this. Just pretend— My inner pep talk was cut off as I was tackled to the ground and all the air left my lungs. I strained my neck muscles to keep the impact on my head as little as possible. I tried to bring my knee up between his legs but he was already pinning me with his full body weight. I head butted him instead. My forehead made contact with his nose and he screamed in tandem with the loud crunching noise the blow made. Blood spurted everywhere and he rolled off of me. He recovered more quickly than I expected and stars danced in front of my eyes when his fist connected with the side of my face. I collapsed onto my back and blinked dazedly. Taking a full out punch was something I’d never done before. It didn’t feel good, to say the least, and it was more difficult to shake off than people in movies always made it seem.

Release day(review) - The Liberty Box @AuthorCAGray

TITLE: The Liberty Box
SERIES: Book One
AUTHOR: C.A. Gray
RELEASE DATE: October 25th 2015
PUBLISHER: Wanderlust Publishing
FORMAT: Ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review

Kate Brandeis has it all: a famous reporter at the age of twenty-four, she’s the face of the Republic of the Americas. She has a loving fiancé and all the success she could wish for. But when she learns of the death of a long-forgotten friend, her investigations unravel her perfect memories, forcing her to face the fact that she’s been living a lie.
Jackson MacNamera, trained from a young age in the art of mind control, returns to the Republic for his mother’s funeral. Within a few hours of his arrival, authorities collect Jackson and take him by force to a room ironically called The Liberty Box, where he must choose between surrendering his thoughts to the new Republic, or fleeing for his freedom.
Kate, bereaved and confused, finds her way to a cave community of refugees, where Jackson seems to offer her an escape from her grief. The two forge an uneasy bond, and in the process Jackson learns that Kate has some insight which may help the hunters in their attempt to free other citizens from the tyranny of the Potentate. Against the expressed wishes of the Council, the hunters plot a series of daring raids, attempting to prove that not only is freedom possible, but that the citizens are not too far gone to desire it. But with the odds so stacked against them, can the refugees succeed in their rescue missions right under the Potentate’s nose?

C.A. Gray is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD), with a primary care practice in Tucson, Arizona. She has always been captivated by the power of a good story, fictional or otherwise, which is probably why she loves holistic medicine: a patient’s physical health is invariably intertwined with his or her life story, and she believes that the one can only be understood in context with the other.

Her favorite fictional tales have always been epic battles of good versus evil, with a strong tendency towards parable. An idealist herself, she has always been convinced that these stories have something deeply true to tell us about the human condition, and that is why we love them so much… or at least that’s why she does.

She still wants to be everything when she grows up. She moonlights as a college chemistry teacher (she has a degree in biochemistry, with minors in Spanish and Creative Writing), does theater when she gets the chance, sings, plays piano, was once a personal trainer and in coffee shop management. She is blessed with exceptionally supportive family and friends, and thanks God for them every single day!

The Liberty Box is an exciting, fresh and full of action dystopian story about how powerful are our minds and the consequences of not owning our thoughts. Many of the topics of this book sounded closer to me, the idea of what liberty really means and how we see what we choose to see. Sometimes we can be happy pretending everything is fine because it's easier than facing the reality.

It all begins when Kate learns about the death of someone from a past she had forgotten. With her fiancé’s help she will discover that The Republic of the Americas is not what it seems. From then on tragedy, revelations and survival will fill Kate’s life. She will encounter a group of people willing to fight for real freedom and bring down the Potentate and The Council.

One of them is Jackson who is captured by the agents as soon as he arrives to the Republic. Jackson is an amazing character. He is a centered, down to Earth, honest man. His control over his mind is incredible and plays a key role in the story. I imagine him as a man who lights up a room just by walking in. I adore him and can't wait to read more about him.

The plot is really good. You can see that the author took her time to create a solid, complete and believable story. The explanations are understandable, the writing is flawless and the characters have defined personalities.

I really enjoyed the rhythm of the story because is fast without rushing into scenes. We can follow the action and when is necessary we can sense the adrenaline or danger.

Overall, The Liberty Box is a really good dystopian story worthy of your time if this is a genre you enjoy. I look forward to read the next one.

Review: Architects of Destiny

TITLE: Architects of Destiny
SERIES: Cadicle #1
AUTHOR: Amy DuBoff
RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2015
GENRE: Science Fiction (space opera) / Young Adult
SOURCE: complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review

Out of sight beyond Earth, the Taran empire spans the galaxy from its seat of power on Tararia. Cris Sietinen was born with rare telekinetic gifts—abilities he refuses to ignore, regardless of the governing Priesthood's decrees. But, as heir to the most influential Dynasty on Tararia, only a stifled life of business and politics awaits him within the confines of his family's estate. Determined to be true to himself and explore the potential of his abilities, Cris leaves Tararia to begin a new life touring the stars. When Cris unexpectedly receives an invitation to join the Tararian Selective Service (TSS), the only organization to offer an official telekinesis training program, a new future awaits. It's his dream opportunity to be among people like himself, free from the Priesthood and political objectives. Except, Cris' path was designed, and he's right where the Priesthood wants him. Architects of Destiny is the first installment in the Cadicle series. A fast-paced space adventure with intrigue, coming-of-age and romance, this short novel is a prelude to the defining events in Tararia’s history in the ensuing years. Is it possible to change destiny? The Cadicle series follows three generations of the pivotal Sietinen Dynasty as each learns their part in an elaborately orchestrated galactic conflict. Torn by politics, love and war, the Cadicle and those he holds most dear must choose between duty and morality as the true nature of their purpose unfolds. Through their roles as Agents in the Tararian Selective Service, they will be on the front lines of space battles, but the political skirmishes they must face on Tararia could prove just as dangerous. The Cadicle holds the key to winning both, but at what cost?

Amy has always loved science fiction—books, movies, shows and games. She was born in San Diego, Calif., and moved with her family to Vancouver, Wash., at the age of seven. After devouring some of the classics like Dune and Ender's Game in her tween years, she began writing science fiction and fantasy short stories.
In the ensuing years, Amy attended the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, where she continued to study creative writing, visual art and played viola in the school orchestra. During this time, she began the very early sketches of what would eventally evolve into the Cadicle series.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Portland State University, and also pursued minors in Professional Writing and Business Administration. After graduating, she moved to Portland, Ore., and began working in business development for an energy efficiency consulting firm. Over the next several years, she primarily wrote proposals to prospective utility clients and managed the proposal development process. She recently transitioned from energy efficiency into the architectural, engineering and planning industry.
Amy currently lives in Portland, Ore., with her husband. When she's not writing, she enjoys travel, wine tasting, binge-watching TV series and playing epic strategy board games.

Arquitects of Destiny is the begining of a series and acts as a prequel for it. As such the book is very dynamic, energetic and exciting. It presents the Tararian Universe using simple words and effective explanations. It's really easy to follow and despite being science fiction all the elements are understandable for all of us. The space travel and the different actors are well built and they come in colorful and vivid descriptions.

The story follows Cris a young boy destined to be the heir of a huge Dynasty who choose to escape and create his own path. There are small time jumps so we can see him grow and finally enter the Tararian Selective Service where he meets his right path.

There is romance, friendship, danger and hidden plans in this story. The characters sound real and their personalities are believable.

The rhythm is constant and the action never stops. The words fly and suddenly the book has ended.

Overall, Architects of Destiny is a fast, dynamic and complete sci-fi book that puts the bar high for the next books in the series. I can't wait to read more.

But when she meets handsome club owner, Damien Michaels, Trina has to remind herself he’s a potential boss, and off limits. Certainly not someone she should be imagining kneeling before and begging for just a taste of what’s hiding beneath his expensive tailored suit.
If she could just get her traitorous body to stick to the plan.

Ollie Ashwood, lead singer of the successful indie band Infraction, is still every inch a trouble maker, but his days of partying and womanizing are over. He’s finally ready to claim the only girl he ever cared enough about not to sweet talk into his arms. Playing a set at his school reunion seems the perfect ploy to draw Ivy out and tell her she’s the woman of his dreams.
